Board meetings with the Entrepreneur

Board meetings with the Entrepreneur

The entrepreneur may be;

  • Headstrong

  • Self-opiniated

  • Set on a journey

  • Unyielding on certain objectives

  • Difficult to handle and overly loyal in certain areas

  • Covers up a lack of knowledge and professionalism in areas by hiring others

The entrepreneur will have made a bold step to create a board and listen to others.

The board may consist of a chairman in place and other non-executives.

Board meetings should be regular, on fixed and immoveable dates, with papers and adequate information provided early enough for everyone to read and consider.

There should be a clear agenda.

Information should be provided, both financial and with adequate important KPIs submitted.

Key strategic decisions can be made. The entrepreneur must buy in.

However, this does not preclude the business being fleet of foot but with any organisation a new business directions needs research, adequate preparation and perhaps even compliance to any regulatory body.

Board meetings are important and also demonstrate a clear direction for senior managers to convey the message to managers.
